Dr. Janice Barkey received her baccalaureate degree from Queen’s University and Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Western Ontario. She completed her pediatric residency at the University of Manitoba and fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition at the University of Calgary. Dr. Barkey earned a Master’s of Science in Medical Education at the University of Calgary. After completing her GI fellowship, Dr. Barkey was an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in Pediatric Gastroenterology at the University of Manitoba. In 2006, she joined the University of Ottawa as an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in Pediatric Gastroenterology at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario.
Dr. Barkey was the recipient of the Canadian Association of Gastroenterology Young Educator’s Award and the Winnipeg Children’s Hospital Pediatrician of the Year Award. She was a Royal College Examiner in Pediatric Gastroenterology and is currently a Co-chair of the Pediatric Residency Education Committee. Dr. Barkey is the director of Upper GI Disorders at CHEO with an interest in pH/Impedance and Eosinophilic Esophagitis.
